In her role as VP Global Medical Head Classic & Established Medicines, Dr. Sharmila lead the Global Medical Affairs Strategy and execution for all the major therapy areas. This includes engagement with key external experts and overseeing medical governance and operations, leading the review and approval of all Phase IIIb & IV studies including paediatric studies, scientific communications and patient advocacy.

As an experienced senior pharmaceutical physician, Dr. Sharmila's career has evolved from clinical medicine to development, to optimizing patient benefit and access to medicines, all with a focus on leadership. Dr. Sharmila specialize in building urgently needed capabilities, this includes digital solutions that meet the needs of the business, while creating a vision and strategy that inspires others to perform at their best.

Before joining GSK in 2006,  Dr. Sharmila held several senior roles at Pfizer and PMCare. Earlier in my career, Dr. Sharmila spent eight years in the Malaysian public hospitals practising as a resident medical officer in Ophthalmology. 

Dr. Sharmila graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India with a M.B.B.S. Dr. Sharmila and her children call Kuala Lumpur home, though their hearts belong to London, UK.
